The second tournament in my short-lived BFL career was on Lake Eufaula in south Alabama, a world-renowned bass fishery and this tourney was setting up better than the first. It was a warm day in early March and the bass were feeling it. And so were the anglers. There were 211 boats so being a guy new to tournament fishing it was quite a sight to behold. That's a lot of boats sitting there waiting to blast off.

On to the day of fishing... I got lucky in this tournament and had a good draw. My partner knew the lake and he knew how to fish it. When you're a co-angler your success will be largely determined by who you draw and how they fish and how well it matches up with how you fish, and sometimes you get lucky as I did on this day.

We were fishing an old road bed and he was catching a few on a spinnerbait. I tried everything else in my arsenal and could not get a stinkin' bite, so I had to start throwing something similar. I had a new bait that I had caught a few on before so I tied that on. It was called a Hybrid Blade by Terminator and it was like a spinnerbait but has a bent piece on the blade that kicks out (see pic).

That bait has since been discontinued but I caught them well enough to weigh in 5 fish and cash my first BFL check, and had a great time doing it. I owe all the thanks to my boater that day. Not only was he on 'em, but he was a cool guy and I had a good time fishing with him. He even turned down half of the money I offered him for expenses. Solid dude and I hope he's doing well.

After almost placing in the top 10 and cashing my first check in the BFL I was really looking forward to the next stop, Lay Lake.
